Biometric Locking
The new Olympus DS-5000iD has finally arrived, and for those who are concerned with security, this could just be the ultimate dictating machine for you. In order to 'unlock' this machine it needs your fingerprint. For those who do not necessarily want to be like James Bond, there is also a 4 digit pin that can be used. To see it visit: digital dictation olympus

Speech Recognition
We want to take the opportunity to elaborate on the term "speech recognition" in contrast with digital dictation. Experience tells us that the terms are frequently confused. This can be a problem when digital dictation is mistaken for computer speech recognition, which is then assumed to some day do all the work and make some jobs redundant.

Speech recognition normally refers to the direct and automated indirect conversion of the spoken word into a written text. Modern speech recognition systems achieve a recognition rate of 95% to 98%. Fundamental essentials for the efficient use of such systems include proper software training and workable acoustic parameters. A rule of thumb is: the more highly specialized the vocabulary, the more disciplined the author, and the more quiet the working area, the higher the recognition rate will be in day-to-day use. To view these go here: digital dictation software

Analogue Update
Tape based systems have been around for longer than we can care to remember, however they are starting to come to the end of their life. A number of manufacturers have stopped manufacturing their tape based dictating and transcription systems, we only have a limited number available of Sanyo for example.

We will keep a running update on the website so that you know where we atand with the analogue equipment.

Technical Stuff
The new Olympus digital DS5000 comes with new DSS Pro software with a number of new features including the setting up of workgroups.

Grundig have recently updated their DigtaSoft software, if you are already running DigtaSoft, you can upgrade for free by visiting the Grundig support area.
